Butoh – An introduction to practice and concepts. Led by Boaz Barkan
Butoh is a contemporary ideology, method and practice relating to the body in performance. Originated in Japan in the late 50’ and early 60’s. It was a reaction to the confluence of Japanese traditional and contemporary cultures with western currents in Avant-guard literature, art and dance.
Butoh established radically new paradigms for embodiment in performance.
This three-day workshop (10.00-16.00) will introduce some of the practices and concepts developed during the period of Butoh.
Boaz Barkan is a creator and facilitator in the field of dance, performance and somatic education. He has works with practices of movement and embodiment as mediums for performers and audiences, practitioners and participants.
In this context Barkan will draw upon his work with Body Weather Laboratory (a limb of Butoh) since 1993.
