Day 1 Introduction – content and form

We will use selected issues of the art magazine Pist Protta to exemplify this. After lunch we will talk about print production and workflow: Offset, letterpress, screen print, photocopying etc.
Day 2 Structure
The use of grids to structure layout in books and reasons for it. Dichotomies that relates to positioning elements in layout, e.g. black-white / left-right / large-small / vertical-horisontal etc. A short description of the structure of the book itself: Cover and content, materials and bindings. After lunch: Practical workshop on the grid, constructing and using grids, making appropriate choices.

After lunch: Practical workshop on typography, we will work manually with type printed on paper and focus on type and space as form.
