Workshop. Julie Ault & Martin Beck. Feb 7-9

Julie and Martin will each present a project currently in the works in order to reflect on the process
of converting investigations into artistic forms. Martin’s project involves communitarian
living structures via 1960 communes and is expected to use various forms from artworks
to installations to film. Julie’s is a book project engaging two cabins built in the Sierra Nevada
by filmmaker James Benning that articulate themes of isolation and outsiderness, and inquire of
the relationships between individuals and society. Relevant readings will be discussed. For R&D
we invite you individually, or, together if you are collaborating, to bring a project, work, or idea you
are presently developing for exposure to a targeted discussion. We will focus on production methods
and the decision-making processes involved in giving ideas and research material forms.
